Tarragon is a perennial herb that thrives near water. It has a woody stem that reaches to about 1 meter (3 feet) high. The leaves are silver-green and covered with fine silky hairs and pale yellow flowers.

History

The name is derived from the Arabic word ‘Tharkhoum’ and the Latin word ‘Dracunculus’ meaning ‘little dragon’ – probably because of the way the root seems to coil up like a dragon.

Caution:

Tarragon Essential Oil is a non-irritant and non-sensitizing essential oil. Nonetheless, it can be moderately toxic due to the methyl chavicol in the oil. Therefore, it should be used in dilution and avoided completely during pregnancy.
